More information on Fawley Waterside Development with Kim Wilkie

In March we filmed at Cerne Abbas Village Hall, Dorchester for CPRE Dorset and their ‘The Way Forward: Better Design and Better Planning for Dorset’s Housing Conference‘ This event featured landowners and their agents, planners, local builders and CPRE members & volunteers. It featured further information on the new Fawley Waterside development with renowned landscape architect Kim Wilkie who is in charge of Strategic Landscape Architecture for the project.

“We worked with a understanding of where the edge of the coast used to be and where you would put a new town on that site and the relationship between The New Forest and the coast.

The development is set to turn the current ‘un-welcoming’ industrial zone into a attractive, sustainable community for both people and commerce. It’s set to be the home to around 3,500 people. Kim went on to talk about employment opportunities, focused on the marina area and near The New Forest.

Kim talked about some of the features already at the site such as a gravel path:

“It’s not pretending to go back to a pristine state but rather, to make the most of the features that are already there. What Ben (Pentreath – Architectural Design) has created is something that really responds to its needs but is incredibly sensitive to it’s hinterland of landscape.”
